My 3 favorite Polish quotes describing Christmas! Posted by Kasia on Dec 9, 2020 in Culture
Christmas is definitely one of my favorite holidays! It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, there is just something special about this time of the year.
Polish Christmas (Święta Bożego Narodzenia) is one of the most festive holiday celebrations in Poland and it plays a major part in Polish culture, tradition and heritage.
I have 3 absolute favorite Polish quotes that describe Christmas in a perfect way!

„Jest taki dzień, bardzo ciepły, choć grudniowy,
Dzień, zwykły dzień, w którym gasną wszelkie spory.
(…) Niebo ziemi, niebu ziemia
Wszyscy wszystkim ślą życzenia,
Drzewa ptakom, ptaki drzewom,
Tchnienie wiatru płatkom śniegu.”
There is a day, very warm, although in December,
A day, an ordinary day when all disagreements are gone.
(…) Heaven to earth, earth to heaven
Everyone is sending everyone good wishes,
Trees to birds, birds to trees,
A breath of wind to snowflakes
Krzysztof Dzikowski, „Jest taki dzień” Czerwone Gitary (part of the song)

It is customary in my country that on Christmas Eve,
At the rise of the first evening star in the sky,
People of the common nest break the Bible bread,
The most tender feelings are conveyed in this bread.
Cyprian Kamil Norwid

I pomyśl, jakie to dziwne,
że Bóg miał lata dziecinne,
matkę, osiołka, Betlejem.
And think how strange it is
that God had a childhood,
mother, donkey, Bethlehem.
Jan Twardowski
