New world champions team Poland! Posted by on Oct 4, 2018 in Current News

Are you a fan of volleyball??? I am and I was watching it on September 30th!

What happened? September 30, 2018 – Poland shut out Brazil 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-23) in a thrilling final of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship before yet another sellout crowd at Turin’s Pala Alpitour to collect the third world title in their history, after 1974 and 2014!

Volleyball (siatkówka) in Poland is a popular team sport. It is one of the most popular sports in Poland. The Men’s national team is ranked 2nd and the Women’s team is ranked 28th in the FIVB World Rankings. Both teams have a lot of success in international competitions.

Poland beat Brazil in straight sets on Sunday to retain its World Championship title, with the United States finishing third (I was kind of rooting for both US and Poland!). Led by Bartosz Kurek, Poland took the tight first set and then cruised through to the final victory in just 97 minutes.

Led by an unstoppable Bartosz Kurek, Poland took the tight first set and went on to win 28-26, 25-20, 25-23 in 97 minutes. Kurek accounted for 24 points, followed by Michal Kubiak with 12 and Artur Szalpuk with 10. Wallace Souza was the top scorer for Brazil, with 14 points. It was Poland’s third world title, having also won it in 1974 as well as 2014 on home soil, where it also beat Brazil.

Top Six Final Ranking:
• 1. Poland
• 2. Brazil
• 3. USA
• 4. Serbia
• 5. Italy
• 6. Russia

The Poland national men’s volleyball team is controlled by the Polski Związek Piłki Siatkowej (PZPS), which represents the country in international competitions and friendly matches. Poland is one of the world’s strongest teams.

And they did it again! Very proud of this amazing Polish team!
