“Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” in Polish Posted by on Dec 23, 2020 in Culture, Uncategorized

Such an amazing Christmas song! I’m pretty sure that most of us know the words!

Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town is a Christmas song, written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie. The earliest known recorded version of the song was by banjoist Harry Reser and his band on October 24, 1934. It was then sung on Eddie Cantor’s radio show in November 1934. This version became an instant hit with orders for 500,000 copies of sheet music and more than 30,000 records sold within 24 hours.

No wonder many countries try to translate it into their native language!

Here is a Polish version! You will notice that words are not translated exactly, but the translation is suppose to tell the story the best way possible in  a Polish language.

Enjoy!

Oh, you better watch out,

you better not cry

You better not pout,

I’m telling you why

Santa Claus is comin’ to town

Już grzeczny dziś bądź

I nie maż się już

Nie dąsaj się wciąż

I uwierz mi, że

Na saniach tu Mikołaj mknie

He’s making a list,

he’s checking it twice

He’s gonna find out

who’s naughty and nice

Santa Claus is comin’ to town

Prezentów ma wór

Rozdawać je chce

I dowie się w mig

Kto broił, kto nie.

Na saniach tu Mikołaj już mknie!

He sees you when you’re sleeping

He knows when you’re awake

He knows if you’ve been bad or good

So be good for goodness sake

Gdy smacznie śpisz, cię widzi.

Wie, kiedy budzisz się,

Czy słuchasz mamy też wie,

więc słuchaj chociaż mnie

Oh you better watch out,

you better not cry

You better not pout,

I’m telling you why

Santa Claus is comin’ to town

Już grzeczny dziś bądź

I nie maż się już

Nie dąsaj się wciąż

I uwierz mi, że

Na saniach tu Mikołaj mknie
