What is friendship? How can you describe friendship in Polish? Posted by on Aug 13, 2014 in Phrases, Vocabulary

A good friend (dobry przyjaciel) might be someone who provides support (ktoś, kto zapewnia wsparcie) when times are tough, or someone you can rely on (ktoś, na kim możesz polegać) to celebrate a special moment with you.

You might see them every day, once a year, or less. Or you might hardly see them, but keep in touch via telephone, email, or online.

Friends (przyjaciele) might come and go, they might make you laugh and cry, but most importantly of all, they love you for who you are (kochają cię za to, kim jesteś). It doesn’t matter what a person looks like or what kind of clothes they wear, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts and your friends should know that about you.

Likewise, having friends means you’ve a responsibility to be there for them too, even when the going gets tough.

Who is a good friend?

A person who:

✺ you can trust and won’t judge you (Osoba, której możesz ufać  i nie będzie Cię oceniać)
✺ won’t deliberately hurt your feelings, but will show kindness and respect (Osoba, która nie będzie celowo ranić twoich uczuć, ale pokaże dobroć i szacunek)
✺ will love you not because they feel he/she has to, but because he/she chooses to (Osoba, która nie będzie cię kochać, bo czuje, że musi, ale dlatego, że taki jest jej wybór)
✺ you can depend on, who is loyal and whose company you enjoy (Osoba, na której możesz polegać, która jest wierna i której towarzystwo lubisz)
✺ will be there no matter what your situation is (Osoba, która będzie przy tobie bez względu na sytuację)
✺ is trustworthy and not afraid to tell you the truth, no matter how hard it is sometimes (Osoba, która jest godna zaufania i nie boi się powiedzieć prawdy, bez względu na to, jak trudne to jest czasami)
✺ can laugh when you laugh (osoba, która potrafi się śmiać z tobą)
✺ will cry when you cry (osoba, która będzie płakać kiedy ty płaczesz)
✺ makes you smile (osoba, która sprawi że się uśmiechniesz)
✺ accepts you for who you are, and lend you an ear when you need to whine or complain (Osoba, która przyjmie cię za to, kim jesteś, i wysłucha, kiedy chcesz narzekać)

Here are few quotes about friendship:

“It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.”
Friedrich Nietzsche

(To nie brak miłości, ale brak przyjaźni, czyni małżeństwa nieszczęśliwymi)

“The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for.”
Bob Marley

(Prawda jest taka, że każdy cię zrani. Musisz tylko znaleźć takie osoby, które są warte cierpienia)

“Life is an awful, ugly place to not have a best friend.”
Sarah Dessen

(Życie jest okropnym, brzydkim miejscem, aby nie mieć najlepszego przyjaciela)
