Where to study a language? Posted by on Jul 26, 2012 in Uncategorized

Where do you think is the best place to study a language?

"The World in Your Hands"

Study your lessons on a train – Trains are a great relaxing way to travel. No need to drive, just sit and learn vocabulary. If you can strike up a conversation with a foreigner, even better.

Study a language on a subway, bus, tram!

Learn a language in the bath – Take your MP3 player in and just sit back and relax. The acoustics are great in the bathroom because it is a small room with water:)

While napping study a language with hypnopedia – Laying on the coach I often simple listen to a repeating loop of language words and phrases. Eventually I fall asleep and somehow I think the vocabulary sinks in my brain.

Walking and talking a language – I often walk down the street talking to myself in a foreign language. People think it is strange to see someone talking to themselves, but do you really care?

On a bench or in a park is a peaceful place to learn – Not a library? Well, nice park bench is more enjoyable in the summer. Besides maybe some pretty girl/handsome man will come sit next to you and help you:)

While driving– I listen to Polish songs for adults and kids, as well as stories for kids or audio books while driving with my daughter!

On vacation or any restful place or environment – The main resistance to study a language is stress, doubt and lack of confidence. Why not lay on the beach and read some foreign language romance book. By the end of the short novel you will have learned a lot.

Church – Go to foreign language service. The service and text are all the same in any language, therefore go to mass in your target language and see how it feels different and let it absorb into your consciousness. In Poland there are a lot of services available in different languages, it may be harder to find a church like this in USA though…

What are your favorite places to study a language (besides visiting another country)?

About the Author: Kasia

My name is Kasia Scontsas. I grew near Lublin, Poland and moved to Warsaw to study International Business. I have passion for languages: any languages! Currently I live in New Hampshire. I enjoy skiing, kayaking, biking and paddle boarding. My husband speaks a little Polish, but our daughters are fluent in it! I wanted to make sure that they can communicate with their Polish relatives in our native language. Teaching them Polish since they were born was the best thing I could have given them! I have been writing about learning Polish language and culture for Transparent Language’s Polish Blog since 2010.
