Can anobody anser to my e mail why Brasil when is wrtten in English is written with Z like this BRAZIL.
It always amased me take an example Argentine is Argentina in any language ; please let me know this is the second time I asked; there must be a hidden answer . BY the way I am learning more portugese thanks to the blogs ;it help me when I talk to some friends o Porto Alegre

I think that the reason is languages tend to write their words in the way they are pronounced and not in the way other languages write them. So, in English, it’s more frequent to have the letter “z” for the sound “zzz.” In Portuguese, “z” is a much more foreign language and they have the “s” for the sound “z.”

Thanks Sheron for you answer why the name of the country Brasil is written in English with Z like Brazil. It always amased me .Anyway you had a probable answer if there is more I would like to know; it is not important ; just curious.
either way I am learnig a falar Portugese thanks for the free help that transparant.com does. Many years ago I used to buy CD from transparent that gave the base so I can now understand like the song 40 GRAUS in Portugese.

The reason Brazil is spelled with a ‘Z’ is because that’s how it was spelled when the country was founded. Have a read of the constitution from 1824: http://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/Constituicao/Constitui%C3%A7ao24.htm

Thanks Chris I see in the Brasilian constitution is BRAZIL, the irony why the people of Brasil do not recognize the Z they write BRASIL.anyway, I want to thank the people that anser my question.
