Ainda Bem Posted by on Jun 16, 2011 in Learning

We’ve learned about the phrase “ainda bem” before, as it’s used as an interjection. But today we’re going to learn how to use it within a sentence.

The meaning is the same: this expression means “good thing” or “thank goodness” or “how fortunate that…” Let’s see it used in a sentence:

Ainda bem que ela não veio hoje. Tenho que limpar ainda! Good thing she didn’t come today. I still need to clean up!

Ainda bem que consegui terminar o projeto ontem! Good thing I managed to finish the project yesterday!

Ainda bem que está chegando o fim de semana! Thank goodness the weekend is nearly here!

Another great way to remember this expression is with a beautiful song from Vanessa da Mata entitled – you guessed it – Ainda Bem!
