Brazilian currency Posted by carol on Mar 31, 2018 in Brazilian Profile, Culture, Customs, Learning, Vocabulary
Boa noite, meus queridos! Good evening, my dear! When in Brazil, you will definitely want to try our delicious local food and drinks, ride the public transportation to go to lots of different places, visit museums, parks, maybe buy the papers to check the news and even take a break from all that action to grab a cup of coffee. Well, one thing is certain: you will need dinheiro (money) to do all that. So our lesson today is going to teach more about a moeda brasileira (Brazilian currency) to help your way around our paper bills and coins.
Despite being a highly touristic country, hardly any place takes dollars or any foreign currency around here, so it is a good idea to stop by an exchange office either before leaving or upon arriving Brazil and getting yourself some reais to avoid any inconvenience.

Now let’s take a look at some information:
- Our official currency is the real (the plural form is reais)

- The notas have the symbol of the head of the republic on one side and native animals of our land on the other side
Here are our coins:
Moeda de cinco centavos (Five cents coin)
Moeda de dez centavos (Ten cents coin)
Moeda de vinte e cinco centavos (A quarter)
Moeda de cinquenta centavos (Fifty cents coin)
