Brazilian Film Watch Posted by on May 11, 2010 in Movies

Last week, we took a look at a new Brazilian documentary, keeping in mind that one of the best things you can do to improve your Portuguese listening comprehension, as well as your knowledge of Brazilian culture, is to watch as many Brazilian movies that you can get your hands on. Let’s take a look at some recent and upcoming Brazilian movies.

Olhos Azuis (Blue Eyes)

A film about a Brazilian living in the US, as well as an American’s adventure in Brazil, starring Brazilian, American, and Latin American actors. I highly recommend it!

Viajo Porque Preciso, Volto Porque Te Amo (I travel because I must, I return because I love you)

The story of a geologist’s journey in sertão of the Brazilian Northeast. It looks like some gorgeous cinematography.

Utopia e Barbárie (Utopia and Savagery)

A documentary about globalization after World War II, in Portuguese as well as Spanish and other languages.

Chico Xavier

This film is about a Brazilian medium who spread Spiritism in Brazil. It has been very successful in Brazilian cinemas and has already been seen by hundreds of thousands of Brazilians.

    • Rachel:

@kelley Hey Kelly, As mentioned in the post, these films just came out in Brazil so they’re not available on DVD yet. Sorry!

  2. kelley:

tem razon..:) olhos azuis was 2009 so i thought maybe it would be available…but perhaps their turnover to dvd or digital isnt as fast as it is here in the US. 🙂 Brigada,

    Rachel,
I am an American with a Brazilian fiance and he told me about Olhos Azuis. Where can I get my hands on a copy of it? I’ve visited the official website, and tried searching all over the www but haven’t had any luck. Thank you so much and I really enjoy your blog!

    • Rachel:

@Tiffany Tiffany, I’m not sure, to be honest. It may be released in the US in the next year or so. I’d email them from the official website, they’re very friendly!

  4. Tiffany:

Oops, if I had read the other comments I would have known that the DVD is not out yet. Thanks!
