Olga Buzova

Olga Buzova (О́льга Бу́зова; buzova86) is a Russian socialite who I would say is famous for being famous. 🙂 She started her career as a participant on the long-running Dom-2 (“Дом-2“) reality show. The contestants on this show, which has been on the air since 2004, had to find a partner and keep their relationship alive in order to win (think of it as a “many-to-many” Bachelor[ette]).

Since leaving the show in 2008, Buzova returned to Dom-2 as a host and later launched multiple other projects as a TV host, actor, and singer. At the time of writing, Buzova had 16 million followers and mostly posted photos of herself.

Ivan Urgant

Ivan Urgant (Ива́н У́ргант, @urgantcom) is a Russian comedian, actor, and talk show host. He comes from a family of entertainers; his grandmother Nina Urgant is a famous Soviet-era actress. Urgant is known for hosting several TV shows, including his current one called Evening Urgant (“Вече́рний У́ргант“). Below is a clip from the show featuring Yury Kasparyan (Ю́рий Каспаря́н), a member of the cult Soviet rock band Kino (“Кино́“), and Aleksander Tsoi (Алекса́ндр Цой), the son of the Kino lead singer Viktor Tsoi (Ви́ктор Цой).

Urgant currently has over 7 million followers.

Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib Nurmagomedov (Хаби́б Нурмагоме́дов, @khabib_nurmagomedov) is a mixed martial artist who has more than 15 million Instagram followers. Nurmagomedov was born in the Republic of Dagestan (Дагеста́н), home to multiple ethnic groups. The fighter belongs to the most prevalent ethnic group in the republic—Avars (ава́рцы).

Nurmugamedov’s father is martial artist, too, and used to be Khabib’s coach. Khabib is also known for his widely-watched UFC fight against Conor McGregor, which ended in a brawl. The athlete mostly shares photos related to his sports career.

Vera Brezhneva

Vera Brezhneva (Ве́ра Бре́жнева, @ververa) first became famous when she joined the pop trio “VIA Gra” (“ВИА Гра“), replacing one of the previous members. The band’s name is a pun referring both to Viagra and “the band called Game“—I didn’t put accent marks on the band’s name because the emphasis will depend on which meaning you have in mind. Brezhneva’s birth name was Vera Galushka and she has taken on her stage name as an homage to the Soviet leader Brezhnev, who came from the same city in Ukraine as she did. In 2007, Vera left the band to launch her solo singing career and has also starred in several movies since.

Brezhneva, who is from Ukraine, is included in this list because she writes in Russian. She currently has over 10 million followers and mostly shares photos of her family and friends, travels, and artistic pursuits.
