Hello everyone! Всем привет!
My name is Maria (Меня зовут Мария), and I will be joining the Russian Language Blog as a contributor. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and remind you of how you can introduce yourself and talk about your biography in Russian.
I was born in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. Я родилась в Челябинске. It is a Russian city in the Southern Urals region.

Despite having over one million residents, Chelyabinsk is not very widely known outside Russia. The latest thing that brought the city into the international spotlight is the meteor that exploded over the city in 2013. The meteor became famous partly thanks to the numerous dash cam videos shot by Russian drivers. Dash cameras (видеорегистраторы) are popular in Russian as an insurance measure for accidents/fraudulent claims. Here is a compilation of dash cam videos of the Chelyabinsk meteor.
Like many Russian schoolchildren, I started learning English (английский язык) in elementary/middle school. I was fortunate to have a second foreign language — German (немецкий язык) — added in middle school. This started a long story of language fascination and exploration for me. My life took a surprising turn when my parents and I moved to Israel for two years — enter Hebrew (иврит)! This was a different kind of language learning, one where language proficiency is needed ASAP in order to function in school and society, one where you cannot afford the few years or even months to master a language. I must compliment the Israeli ulpan system — it got me to an intermediate level in a matter of months, but being young probably helped, too.
We ended up going back to Russia, and when I was in high school, I moved to Moscow (Я переехала в Москву). I got accepted to Moscow State University (Я поступила в МГУ) to study Linguistics. While in college, I worked as a English-Russian translator and interpreter (conveniently, that’s the same word in Russian — переводчик!). I continued taking German in university and took on another language — Spanish.
After graduation, I got accepted to Kent State University in Ohio and received my Master’s degree in Translation. During my studies there, I taught Russian (я преподавала русский язык) to absolute beginners, which was a challenging and rewarding position. Once I completed my Master’s program, I moved to Rochester, NY, for a job with a translation company. I continue to pursue opportunities to improve the languages I started learning — and maybe to learn a couple new ones! I have also taught a few Russian classes for the Rochester community. I enjoy showing learners that Russian is not as scary as is usually thought and that they can understand and produce some basic phrases in no time.

Maria, I think there’s too much English in your story. Рассказ очень интересный. Многие наши читатели знают русский довольно прилично и обсуждают тонкости русского языка. Посмотрите предыдущие рассказы. Они в основном на русском с небольшими дополнениями и объяснениями трудных моментов в русском языке.
Что вы думаете, члены клуба?

Thank you for the comment. Я буду больше писать на русском для читателей с высоким уровнем русского языка. Я хотела бы, чтобы начинающие изучать русский тоже могли бы понять, о чём идёт речь. Будем искать компромиссы!

Maria privet! Mne nravitsya to, shto Ru blog nachinalsya snova. Ae you the same Maria who wrote a couple of guest blogs 2 or 3 years ago – about grammar and aspects? Or are you a different one?
Pro vopros – skolko po-anglishki i skolko po-russki, ya predpochital bi chitat bolshinstvo po-Ru (s obyasneniami trudnix slov i fras), kogda vi pishete pro, naprimer, istoriyu, politiku, itd, a boshinstvo po-Ang kogda vi pishete pro grammatiku, slova itd.
Izvinite shto ne pishu po-Cyrilliku!

Регулярно читаю Ваш Блог-Russian Language Blog и так поддерживаю свои умения на русском языке.С интересом прочитал историю Марии и желая ей удачи в освоении чужих реч.Надеюсь,когда-нибудь она встретит и мой родной болгарский язык и ей не будет трудно понимать наши слова.
Я работал в ССО-Студенческий Строительный Отряд в августе 1973 и мы строили вместье с коллегами Челябинского Государственного Медицинского Института второй этаж школы Опытного поселка,Чебаркульского района,Челябинской области.Как-бы не искал на карте где этот поселок теперь не могу его найти-возможно имя другое теперь,не знаю.Желаю здоровья и удачи всем южным уральцам и жителям Челябинска-они чудесные русские люди.Если поможете найти где находится этот Опытный поселок буду Вам очень благодарным.
