Intermediate theory video lesson 19

1. First I am going to say a few Spanish phrases and I would like you to tell me if they are used to agree, to disagree or to express partial agreement:

Es obvio
¡Claro que sí!
Eso no tiene sentido
Por supuesto
No lo veo muy claro
No estoy de acuerdo al cien por cien
Yo en eso discrepo
Evidentemente
Puede ser, pero…
Soy de la misma opinión

2. Next, can you translate the following words and phrases from English to Spanish?

I agree
I disagree
I am not very sure
Indeed
I don´t completely agree
Well said!

3. Now let´s practice some colloquial ways of saying no in Spanish. I will suggest a few things and you have to answer using a colloquial phrase in Spanish that tells me no:

¿Vienes a la playa conmigo?
¿Vamos al cine?
¿Quieres ir a clases de baile?
¿Cenamos en un restaurante chino?
¿Quieres viajar a Francia?

4. Now, we will practice some colloquial expressions of disagreement in Spanish. Do you know what these Spanish expressions mean?

¡Estás mal de la cabeza!
¡Deja de decir chorradas!
¡No me vengas con historias!
¡Tú estás loco/a!
Pero, ¿qué dices?

5. Finally, can you translate the following sentences from English to Spanish?

Where did you hear that?
That doesn’t make sense!
Don’t talk rubbish/trash!
Even you can’t believe that!
You don’t know what you’re talking about!

Esto es todo por la clase de hoy.

Agreeing and disagreeing is something we do all the time when talking to people, so these sentences, phrases, and expressions will help you a lot in everyday conversations with Spanish speakers. You will find many opportunities to use them, so don´t be afraid and enjoy discussing and debating in Spanish!

¡Hasta pronto!
