Intermediate theory video lesson 18

1. Let´s start by offering to do a few things for someone else, using the verb Querer talking to one person in a friendly way:

How can you offer to buy food for another person?
How can you offer to clean the house for another person?
How can you offer to make a coffee for another person?
How can you offer to help another person to study?
How can you offer to stop the car for another person?
How can you offer to lend another person your pen?

2. Next, please tell me what these questions in Spanish mean:

¿Quiere que le ayude a pasar la carretera?
¿Quiere que le abra la puerta?
¿Quiere que apague el cigarrillo?
¿Quiere que me vaya?
¿Quiere que encienda la televisión?
¿Quiere que vayamos con usted?

3. Let´s see now if you know how to accept an offer in Spanish. What do these expressions mean?

Vale
De acuerdo
Como quiera… gracias
Si quieres
Genial, gracias, de verdad
Te lo agradezco en el alma
Se lo agradecería muchísimo

4. Finally, let´s practice how to reject an offer in Spanish. Please translate the following sentences from English to Spanish:

Honestly, no, thanks
No, it is not necessary, thank you
No, it is not necessary, thank you anyway

Esto es todo por hoy.

Offering help is a very good way to introduce oneself to other people and therefore a great way to practice your Spanish. Don´t be afraid of making mistakes and go for it. If you practice often you will see how much you improve and you will also memorise things a lot better.

I wish all of you lots of happiness for the New Year. And I hope your new year’s resolution is to be fluent in Spanish!
