Allsång på Skansen Posted by on Jun 27, 2012 in Culture

This week an old Swedish favorite TV-program has started yet again. Allsång på Skansen. (Allsång means “singalong”). Eight weeks forward different artists will sing live at Skansen in Stockholm. The very first broadcasting of the event was on SVT on the 3rd of August 1979. Every couple of years different numbers of programs were broadcasted but from 1990 it has continuously been shown every single summer making it a tradition for many Swedes to sit down together and watch this music entertainment. Since last summer (2011) Måns Zelmerlöw has been the program leader and he continues entertaining Sweden this year too. However, many of you might recognize the face of Anders Lundin who stayed with the program for quite a few years as the “face of Allsång på Skansen”.

The concept of this well liked Swedish tradition is that whether you are at home singing along on the TV with the lyrics at the bottom of the screen, or if you are there singing in the crowds along with the artists, no matter where you are you should be able to enjoy and sing along.

At Allsång på Skansen there is always a choir singing and  famous artists, both recent debuts and all time favorites come and sing and interact with the audience making the whole experience quite a fantastic one. People always hope for the best of weather since the benches are outside in the open air with a big stage up at the very front, usually covered in flowers or birch branches.

A lot of classic Swedish songs are sung at Allsång på Skansen so you might enjoy learning/singing along to some.
