#1. agony: in Greek αγωνία means suspense or anxiety.

Example: Ο Γιάννης έχει αγωνία για τα αποτελέσματα των εξετάσεων. / Yannis is anxious about the results of the exams.

#2. cosmos: κόσμος means world and people.

Example: Υπήρχε πολύ κόσμος στη συναυλία. / There were a lot of people at the concert.

#3. costume: κοστούμι means costume and suit.

Example: Αυτή η γραβάτα δεν ταιριάζει με το κοστούμι σου. / This tie doesn’t match your suit.

#4. empathy: εμπάθεια means hostility.

Example: H εμπάθειά σου απέναντι στην αδερφή σου δεν σε αφήνει να είσαι αντικειμενικός. / Your hostility against your sister doesn’t let you be objective.

#5. logistics: λογιστικός is an adjective and it means related to accounting.

Example: Στο τέλος του επόμενο μήνα θα γίνει λογιστικός έλεγχος. / At the end of the month an audit will be carried out.

#6. machine: μηχανή can mean device, engine, camera and motorcycle.

Example: Η κόρη μου πήρε το αυτοκίνητο σήμερα. Θα έρθω με τη μηχανή. / My daughter took the car today. I’ll come by motorcycle.

#7. metallic: μεταλλικός means metallic. However, when it refers to water, it means mineral.

Example: Θα ήθελα ένα ποτήρι μεταλλικό νερό με μία φέτα λεμόνι, παρακαλώ.  I would like a glass of mineral water with a slice of lemon, please.

#8. pathologist: παθολόγος is a general doctor.

Example: Η Έλλη πήγε στον παθολόγο και της έγραψε εξετάσεις και ακτινογραφία θώρακα. / Ellie went to the pathologist and he prescribed blood tests and a chest X-ray.

#9. pneumatic: πνευματικός means spiritual (from πνεύμα which means spirit).

Example: Η νονά μας είναι η πνευματική μας μητέρα. / Our godmother is our spiritual mother.

#10. sympathy: συμπάθεια means fondness.

Example: Δείχνει συμπάθεια σε όλους τους μαθητές του. / He shows fondness to all his students.
