Teuroteu Music

Teuroteu (트로트) music is a combination of fox trot music, jazz and traditional Korean music. Teuroteu music became popular after WWII, when American musical influences were inspiring Korean artists. Teuroteu is especially popular with older audiences, but it’s making a slow comeback with younger audiences.
You may have heard of Tae Jin Ah (태진아) through his son, Eru (이루), who is also a singer. He has a nice, husky voice, which can be heard in 짝사랑 or “Unrequited Love”
Song Dae Gwan (송대관) is easily the undisputed king of Teuroteu music. His song 네 박자 (Four Beat Tempo) is an example of how he sings with natural ease.
Jang Yoon Jeong (장윤정) is responsible for making Teuroteu music trendy among younger audiences. Her hit song was (어머나!) or “Oh My Goodness!”
Nowadays, Teuroteu music is appreciated by a wider audience, but the teuroteu music catering to younger audiences has changed considerably from traditional teuroteu music.
