“에” has a few meanings which is to, at/in.  So, it is high frequency and you will hear a lot. You need to classfied the meaning by text. The best way to understand the “에” is reading many kinds of examples. I will give you some examples to study and ask some questions you can guess.

I am going to school/ 저는 학교에 가요/jeo nun hak kyo ae ga yo.

She is at/in school/ 그녀는 학교에 있어요/ gu neoy nun hak gyo ae it eo yo.

There is no computer in the office/ 사무실에 컴퓨터가 없어요/ sa mu sil ae computer ga eob sseo yo.

My mother is going to my grand mother’s house tomorro/ 내일 어머니는 저의 할머니 댁에 가요/ nae il eo meo ni nun jeo ue hal meo ni dak ae ga yo.  댁 is honorific way to say house (집).

Are you able to say differences above? Now, you can guess the meaning of “에” from examples below

  2. 친구 만나러 공항에 가요.
  3. 책상에 연필이 있어요.
  4. 집에 동생이 없어요.
  5. 내일 뉴욕에 가요.
  6. 내은은 부산에 놀러 갈 거예요.
