Portuguese Learning Websites Posted by on May 15, 2009 in Learning

For today’s interactive feature, we’re going to discuss Portuguese websites.

The question is: which websites (other than this one) do you use to help you learn Portuguese?

Though I personally learned Portuguese mostly through speaking, I use news sites to help practice my reading skills, like O Globo, Folha, and Terra. But there are a few free sites out there that teach Portuguese. Which ones do you use?

-Professor Jason’s Youtube Page: I saved this one for last. He’s actually a Spanish Teacher but also tries to help out people learning Brazilian Portuguese. He’s an amazing teacher!!!

    One site I’ve tried is:

    http://www.livemocha.com

Livemocha is a “social networking” site based around language acquisition. It has four courses dedicated to teaching Portuguese. Two have optional writing and speaking tests which are reviewed by the community of native Portuguese speakers (who are often learning English, by the way). This is an amazing resource; within minutes of submitting your work you have helpful feedback from people who really know the language.

The Livemocha courses themselves are similar to the “Rosetta Stone” approach to language training. It is certainly worth trying and what’s more the Portuguese courses are free (at least for now).

Sorry, it’s me again. I just wanted to state the obvious really, that is THE single most useful resource for learning Portuguese via the web is this one:

I don’t want to dump my entire list of bookmarks here so I’ll limit myself to just four really useful ones that deserve some thanks:
