Hello. I found your blog yesterday and spent many hours here. Thank you for this amazing resource!
However, I am a bit confused because I couldn’t find some of the words from this blog in my dictionary. When I entered the translations in the English Wikipedia and looked at the corresponding Arabic entries, I found some of them with a slightly different spelling, which my dictionary recognizes. For example, Wikipedia spells anise as يانسون, not ينسون. Caraway is supposed to be كراويا, not كراوية. Are these alternate spellings?
Also, I’d appreciate a clarification of the difference between شوربة and شربة. Dictionaries only seem to recognize the latter form, but the Wikipedia article uses both. As if Arabic weren’t difficult enough… 🙂

@Vera Hi Vera,
I believe that both كراويا and كراوية are different spellings of the same word, and this is the same for يانسون and ينسون
The words I used in the game are the ones we commonly use in Egypt, as I am Egyptian.
شوربة is soup, while شربة is a type of medicine.
Please check the answers in tomorrow’s post.
Salaam
Aziza
