Ahlan wa Sahlan 2013!! We are already two days in the new year!! Time really flies. I hope you had time to work on your New Year Resolutions! The important thing is that you strive to meet your goals and work hard on keeping your resolutions!! I know I will be working hard to keep mine, even though I will have numerous incentives to cheat on some of them. I am positive that I will stay focused on the resolutions that concern the Arabic blog!!
In this post, I would like to share a small news briefing on a recent diplomatic clash between Egypt and Cyprus. I picked up on this story from the website of a local newspaper in Beirut called Al Diyar. After presenting this news briefing, I will pose some questions for you to answer. Like a previous post on the limited career opportunities for women in Saudi Arabia, this post is also an exercise that allows you to reflect on the material you have read. قبرص تعتذر بعد حادثة مع السفيرة المصرية
قدمت قبرص اعتذارا رسميا الى مصر بعد حادثة جرت في مطار لارنكا الدولي بين عنصر في جهاز امن المطار والسفيرة المصرية في نيقوسيا. وقالت وزارة الخارجية في بيان انها “تقدم اعتذارا علنيا وتأسف بكل صدق من طريقة معاملة السفيرة التي لا تعكس مبدأ احترام الاشخاص والممثلين الدبلوماسيين”، من دون توضيح ظروف الحادثة. وجرت الحادثة في 29 كانون الاول الماضي عندما كانت السفيرة منحة محروس باخوم ترافق اقارب لها الى المطار.
وافادت وسائل اعلام محلية ان باخوم اوقفت في المطار بعد اشكال مع عناصر الامن الذين طلبوا منها نزع حذائيها لمرافقة زوجها واولادها الى بوابة صالة السفر. وتابعت المصادر نفسها ان السفيرة استاءت من طريقة مخاطبة عتاصر الامن لها واساءة معاملتها، مشيرة الى انه خلال المشادة تعرضت شرطية لصفعة. واكدت الوزارة ان الرئيس القبرصي ديمتريس خريستوفياس امر بفتح تحقيق سريع حول الحادثة التي قد تؤثر على العلاقات بين البلدين
