In this post, I thought I’d talk about grandparents الأجداد in Arabic and everything about them that makes them special مميزين in the lives of their surrounding family members أفراد الأسرة.
Do you remember how to say grandfather and grandmother in Arabic?
grandfather is جد
grandmother is جدة
No matter the culture, الأجداد are regarded as being wise حكماء caregivers مقدمي رعاية and deserve the highest respect احترام. At the moment, my husband and I are living in a full house of two children طفلين, an aunt عمة, uncle عم, and أجداد. Watching the growing relationship العلاقة المتنامية between الأجداد and grandchildren الأحفاد has been wonderful. The children have also learned so much more Arabic vocabulary. Living in the US, despite still speaking to my children in Arabic at home, competing with the English speaking world outside can sometimes be tough. So, more people at home to speak Arabic with them has been great رائع!

My children call their grandfather جدو and their grandmother تيتا. Many children in the Arabic speaking world do the same.

Here is a text in Arabic talking about the roles of grandparents أدوار الأجداد. But before reading, let’s look at the following vocabulary.
مقدمي رعاية: caregivers
زملاء في اللعب: playmates
مستشارون موثوق بهم: trusted advisors
رعاية أطفال منتظمة: regular childcare
التقارب العاطفي: emotional closeness
التطور الصحي: healthy development
يمكن للأجداد أن يلعبوا العديد من الأدوار المهمة في حياة أحفادهم الصغار المحبوبين. من الممكن أن يكونوا مقدمي رعاية ومعلمين وزملاء في اللعب. إنهم مستشارون موثوق بهم لأطفالهم البالغين الذين أصبحوا الآن آباء. بالنسبة للعديد من العائلات، يوفر الأجداد رعاية أطفال منتظمة. في بعض الحالات، يكونون من مقدمي الرعاية الأساسيين لأحفادهم. وسواء كانوا يعيشون في مكان قريب أو يظلون على اتصال من بعيد، فإن الحب والتقارب العاطفي اللذين يوفرهما الأجداد لهما تأثير كبير وإيجابي على التطور الصحي لأحفادهم
