In this post, I present the answers of the listening comprehension exercise presented earlier, and the transcription of the news story. The questions are based on the first 45 seconds. You can use the vocabulary list below to aid your comprehension.

بـ”لا” حسم الاسكتلنديون خيارهم الرافض للاستقلال عن بريطانيا في استفتاء تاريخي عزز الوحدة البريطانية التي رأى فيها رئيس الوزراء دايفيد كاميرون امرا بغاية الاهمية كاميرون سنواصل الوقوف إلى جانب اسكتلندا وملتزمون بدعمها، كما انه ستقدم سلطات اضافية لانكلترا ووايلز وايرلندا الشمالية واسكتلندا وسنستمع لمن صوتوا لصالح الاستقلال، ونتعهد بحل المسائل الحيوية مع اسكتلندا. 55% ضمنت فوز معسكر الوحدويين على مؤيدي الاستقلال ما عزز موقع بريطانيا وحلفائها الذين خافوا من تداعيات اي انفصال لما قد يشكله من اضطراب مالي وتقليص لنفوذ العالمي المتبقي لبريطانيا

The Scottish voted No for independence.

2- How did David Cameron view result of the referendum?

David Cameron viewed result of the referendum as an extremely important matter.

3- What did David Cameron promise?

David Cameron promised to continue standing by Scotland’s side, to support it, and to listen to the views of those who voted for independence.

4- What was the percentage of those who voted for unity with Britain?

55% voted for unity with Britain.

5- What did the British and their allies fear in case of separation?

The British and their allies feared financial turbulence and shrinking of Britain’s international influence.
