حذرت منظمة العمل الدولية من ارتفاع معدل البطالة في منطقة الشرق الأوسط مرتين عن المعدل العالمي، ووفق تقرير للمنظمة فإن البطالة بلغت أحد عشر في المئة بين جميع الفئات العمرية العام الماضي. كما أظهر التقرير أن الشباب والنساء لا يزالون يتحملون العبء الأكبر لمواجهة مشكلة البطالة، فبينما أشار التقارير إلى أن أكثر من ربع الشباب في الشرق الأوسط عاطلين عن العمل منذ العام الماضي، وفي ظل تباطؤ النمو بمعظم بلدان المنطقة، قال التقرير إن الوضع يبقى قاتماً في سوق العمل وإن نسبة البطالة مرشحة للارتفاع أكثر خلال السنوات المقبلة، سيما في إيران والعراق واليمن وفلسطين التي بلغت نسبة البطالة فيها بين النساء سبعين في المئة.
