As explained in my previous post, there are three cases of the present tense verb, the default case, the imperfect (المرفوع), the subjunctive (المنصوب), and the jussive (المجزوم). The case of the verb depends on what precedes it. In this post, I explain the three cases of the present tense verb with suffix endings (ان، ين، ون), i.e. verbs conjugated with the pronouns (أنتِ، هما، أنتما، هم، أنتم).

The imperfect (المرفوع) is the default case; we find it when the verb is not preceded by anything specific, or by (لا) for negation. The suffixes do not change in the default case, for example: أنتِ تعملين، هما يعملان/هما تعملان، أنتما تعملان، هم يعملون، انتم تعملون

The subjunctive (المنصوب) occurs when the verb is preceded by (أن، لن، لِ، حتى، كي). In this case, the suffixes change by dropping the final (ن) as follows, for example: أنتِ لن تعملي، هما لن يعملا/ هما لن تعملا، أنتما لن تعملا، هم لن يعملوا، انتم لن تعملوا

The jussive (المجزوم) occurs when the verb is preceded by (لم) . In this case, the suffixes change by dropping the final (ن) as follows, for example: أنتِ لم تعملي، هما لم يعملا/ هما لم تعملا، أنتما لم تعملا، هم لم يعملوا، انتم لم تعملوا

In the sentences below, choose the right form of the present tense verb and mark the ending as appropriate. The verb you need to use will be provided at the end of the sentence in brackets.

1- كل يوم، الطلاب ————— مبكرا!. (استيقظ)

2- الأساتذة لا —————— التأخير. (أحب)
