“Welcome Eid أهلًا بالعيد” – A Song Posted by on May 22, 2020 in Arabic Language, Culture, Vocabulary

It’s the festive season again.. It’s just been announced that tomorrow is the last day of Ramadan and so Eid is on Sunday, the 24th. May. Kul  ʕaam  wa  antum  bi-khair كل عام وأنتم بخير  🙂 If you’d ask any Arab about a song they often associate with Eid, the song “Ahlan Ahlan Bil-Eid”, by the Egyptian singer and actress Safaa Abu-assuood, would definitely be one of them.

It’s a very popular song around time of Eid Al-fitr عيد الفطر  and it has been since adapted, and here you can listen to a modern version/adaption of it. In today’s blog, we’re going to learn the lyrics and finish with a few interesting phrases that are associated with happiness السّعَادَة and also phrases of activities الأَنْشِطَة  people and kids do during Eid.

You can listen to the original version here and follow the lyrics below.

Welcome, welcome Eid

Hello hello to Eid

Welcome, welcome Eid

Hello hello to Eid

Eid is joy.. and the most beautiful joy

Reunites the close and the far away

being happy about it.. makes it

A beautiful memory, beyond Eid time

Sing with me.. sin

Say after me.. say

Multiple, oh God, our joy

And bless it and increase it

Eid is upon us.. Eid is upon us

Eid is upon us.. Eid is upon us

Welcome, welcome Eid

Hello hello to Eid

Welcome, welcome Eid

Hello hello to Eid

Bless and congratulate.. together and hope

That all the world be happy

All are brothers.. Outside and inside

All is joy, bliss and trills (ululations)

Sing with me.. sin

Say after me.. say

Multiple, oh God, our joy

And bless it and increase it
