The other day I met a businessman interested in 创业 (entrepreneurship)- he was the 老板 (head) of a startup company which investigates 专利权 (patents) and 商标 (trademarks) in China.  He was visibly 激动 (excited), but he had given no thought to how his Chinese company would ensure that their 记帐 (bookkeeping) standards 符合 (met) those required by the regulatory commissions governing the very exchanges where he wanted to 上市 (go on the market).  Moreover, he was still looking for venture funding without having said how the business plan would work.  This is a recurring theme in China which I have seen echoed across industries and by people in different positions.  Among startup founders and individual investors, there is a focus on 短期 (short-term) gains.  According to an associate of mine, for some investors in China a long-term position on a stock might be 才 (just/merely) 3 months long.
