In the Dutch Bedroom Posted by on Jul 14, 2010 in Dutch Language

I know, it sounds like a rather tawdry title for this post, but nothing to see here folks! Just some basic vocabulary for items you will find in the bedroom.  We’ve already had a good look around the kitchen.  After this we’ll check out some verbs for household work, and vocabulary for the living room, the bathroom and the garden.  Then we should be about done around the house.

On a more cultural note, the Dutch use a type of bedding called a dekbed.  In English I would call it a duvet, a cover that you put a down or filled comforter into.  There are usually no flat sheets or blankets on the bed, and the inner dekbed is changed in thickness seasonally.  Both methods have their pros and cons, I’m personally rather indifferent, although quite fond of how easy it is to make the bed in the morning without the hassle of sheets and blankets.  Are you a die hard dekbed fan?  Tell us why in the comments section below!  You might even change my indifference.

      @Tiffany Hi Tiffany,

      That’s a great one! Add that to the list for sure. And make sure to practice it…in order to fully grasp the meaning of the word and all. 🙂
