My Top Three German Songs of the Decade! Posted by Larissa on Dec 17, 2019 in Music
I remember the first time I recognized a German song that I knew the words to. It was in a clothes shop and I started singing along to the music in my head, without realizing that it was in a different language. It is amazing how music can help you learn a different language. Carrying on from Conni’s post (which you can find here), I will also be sharing my top three German songs of this decade as the year comes to a close. Below are my favorite three songs that I hope you enjoy just as much as I do.
Sido – Tausend Tattoos (2018)
With a catchy chorus, the rapper Sido raps about his “tausend” (thousand) tattoos and what they mean. The repetitive phrase “for you” means you can sing along even if you don’t understand the words yet, and towards the end of the song “for you” changes to “für dich”, so you will be rapping away in German in no time!
Andreas Bourani – Auf uns (2014)
I love this feel good song! “Auf uns” meaning “to us”, this song is basically congratulating ourselves and everything we can achieve in our lives. See if you can translate the chorus below:
Ein Hoch auf uns, uns
Auf dieses Leben
Auf den Moment
Der immer bleibt
Ein Hoch auf uns, uns
Auf jetzt und ewig
Auf einen Tag
Unendlichkeit
Sarah Connor – Wie Schön Du Bist (2015)
A song dedicated to her son, which has beautiful lyrics that we can all relate to about someone that we know. My favorite lines are: “Wie all deine Farben und all deine Narben” (with all of your colors, and all of your scars) “Weißt du noch gar nicht wie schön du bist!” (do you not know how beautiful you are!)
It was so hard to just pick three songs, and now I want to hear your favorite songs from this decade! Leave me a comment and I will listen to all of your choices. We are taking the best songs of the 2010s to make a spotify playlist on our new Transparent Language station, it will be available in 2020 so start sharing your favorites below!
