Popular Greek songs of the last decade (Part 1) Posted by Ourania on Dec 12, 2019 in Uncategorized
Γεια σας! There are only few days before this decade ends and the next posts will be related to the music produced the last ten years. Today, I will present you three popular Greek songs, which also happen to be some of my favorites.
1. Μαρίνα Σάττι – Μάντισσα (Marina Satti, The Fortune – teller)
Popula
ΜαρίναΣάττι is half Greek, half Sudanese, has studied at the Berklee College of Music and her songs are a fusion of urban and Greek folk music. The music video of the song Μάντισσα was filmed at the center of Athens. The song was a hit in the summer of 2017.
2. Trio Tekke – InDa
The band from Nicosia released their first album in 2009. Their first songs were remixes of old rebetika songs. The song InDa is from their second album, Samas, released in 2011. The songs of this album contain elements of reggae, psychedelic music and jazz.
3. Παύλος Παυλίδης & B-movies – Ένα αλλιώτικο παιδάκι (A different kid, in direct translation)
Caution: NSFW This video contains material which may be offensive to some viewers.
A song with a sad story. It was a hit last year and was composed after the murder of Ζακ Κωστόπουλος, a.k.a. Zak, a Greek LGBTQ activist. Pavlos Pavlides from Macedonia, is one of the most popular Greek musicians. He was the frontman of Ξύλινα Σπαθιά (Xilina Spathia), one of the most famous Greek rock bands.
I am always interested in knowing what non-Greeks think of Greek music: Do you know any Greek songs? Which Greek songs of the last ten years do you like? Feel free to leave a comment!

Hi there! Here in Italy it’s not so common to hear some Greek music, a part from Vangelis’ soundtracks that are very popular. I use the internet and the spotify app to listen to some Greek radio stations. I enjoy quite a lot the Greek music. One of my favourite singers was Παντελής Παντελιδης and I was chocked when I heard of his tragic death. I also like Paola’s music, but my favourite song at the moment’s probably Έτσι κι αλλιώς.
Ourania:
@Paola Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy Greek music. Πανταλίδης and Πάολα are very famous in Greece.

Hi, I was waiting for a post like this! Last year I “discovered” Greek rock and it pretty much shows up in my Spotify stats for 2019… 🙂 I was so hooked on Xilina Spathia that I actually started learning the lyrics of many of their songs (phonetically, without knowing any Greek words at all, so that was fun – but thank God for Google Translate). Also, anything that Pavlidis does is pretty cool: whether it’s B-movies, collabs, or solo acts – it’s just amazing. I’m a huuuuge fan right now as you can tell:), hopefully I’ll get to see him next year when I’m in Greece. Apart from him, I’ve been listening to Tripes, Pavlos Sidiropoulos, Diafana Krina… And from more “recent” things – 1000mods. That’s some high quality stoner rock I never expected from Greece, to be honest 😛

@ginn Great taste! Since you like rock, you should definitely listen to “The Villagers of Ioannina City”- it’s a must 🙂 – and the ‘Appalachian Cobra Worshipers”, but they sing in English.
