Γεια σας! Today we will see some examples on the use of numeral adjectives from 100 to 100. You can find more information about the Greek numbers in the post About Greek numbers.

 

100 εκατό

Note that the numbers from 101 to 199 take a -ν:

101 εκατόν ένα

122 εκατόν είκοσι δύο

199 εκατόν ενενήντα εννιά

Example:

H θεία μου είναι εκατόν πέντε χρονών. My aunt is 105 years old.

 

200 διακόσια

300 τριακόσια

400 τετρακόσια

500 πεντακόσια

600 εξακόσια

700 επτακόσια / εφτακόσια

800 οκτακόσια / οχτακόσια

900 εννιάκοσια

1000 χίλια

*Τhe numbers from 100-1000 are neuter and they are in the plural form.

*When used as adjectives they can take different endings (except 100).

Examples:

Έχουν εκατόν δύο κότες στη φάρμα τους. They have 102 hens in their farm.

The noun κότες is feminine but εκατό remains invariable.

Στο πάρτυ κάλεσαν εκατό φίλους τους. They invited 100 friends at their party.

Η Ισμήνη και ο Θωμάς είχαν πεντακόσιους καλεσμένους στον γάμο τους. Ismini and Thomas had 500 guests at their wedding. (καλεσμένους is masculine and πεντακόσιους is masculine too).

Το εισιτήριο για την Ελλάδα κόστισε χίλιες λίρες. Τhe ticket to Greece costed 1000 pounds. (Λίρες is feminine)

To χωριό έχει επτακόσιους κατοίκους, τριακόσιους πενήντα άντρες, εκατόν τρεις γυναίκες και διακόσια σαράντα εφτά παιδιά. Τhe village has 700 residents, 350 men, 103 women and 247 children.

Ο μάγειρας έχει τετρακόσιες σαράντα τέσσερις συνταγές από διάφορες χώρες. Τhe cook has 444 recipes from different countries. (Συνταγές is feminine).

Στο νησί υπάρχουν τριακόσιες εκκλησίες. There are 300 churches in the island. (Εκκλησίες is feminine).

H πιο κοντινή πόλη απέχει διακόσια χιλιόμετρα από εδώ. (Χιλιόμετρα is neuter).

Στην Γιορτή Κρασιού καναταλώθηκαν διακόσιοι μεζέδες . At the wine festival, 200 finger foods (or appetizers) were consumed. (Μεζέδες is masculine).

Mπορείς να μου πεις τι έκανες τα οκτακόσια ευρώ που σου έδωσα; Can you tell me what did you do with the 800 euros I gave you?

Η Μαριλένα συλλέγει κούπες. Έχει πάνω από διακόσιες. Marilena collects mugs. She has more than 200. (Κούπες is feminine).

*When we refer to a page number (page 1, page 231) or to an exercise (exercise 1, exercise 23) the numbers are invariable.

Examples:

Ανοίξτε τα βιβλία σας στη σελίδα τριακόσια τρία. Open your book on page 303.

But

Το βιβλίο έχει τετρακόσιες δέκα σελίδες. Τhe book has 410 pages.
