Good afternoon, everyone! Boa tarde a todos! No post passado, aprendemos alguns idioms da língua inglesa que usam cores para expressar seu significado. Algumas lembram expressões que também usamos em português, enquanto outras são mais particulares do inglês. E já dizia a canção “Somewhere over the, rainbow skies are blue“. So let’s get moving?

to have the blues – to feel sad or depressed | estar mal, estar na pior

black sheep – a person or family member who doesn’t fit in the group | ovelha negra

• Everyone thinks my sister is the black sheep in our family because she dropped out of college | Todo mundo acha que minha irmã é a ovelha negra da família porque ela largou a faculdade
• They started treating Jim like the black sheep just because he wasn’t into sports | Eles começaram a tratar o Jim como a ovelha negra só porque ele não gostava de esportes

gray area – something unclear or without precise rules | zona cinzenta

• This is a legal grey area, you’d better contact a lawyer before proceeding | Esta é uma zona cinzenta jurídica, é melhor entrar em contato com um advogado antes de prosseguir
• There is a grey area about office relationships, although dating someone in the company isn’t explicitly forbidden | Existe uma zona cinzenta em relação a relacionamentos no escritório, embora namorar alguém na empresa não seja explicitamente proibido

green light – permission to proceed | permissão, aprovação

• We have been given the green light by the City Council to start construction | Recebemos permissão da Câmara Municipal para iniciar a construção
• The marketing department finally gave us the green light to kick off the new campaign | O departamento de marketing finalmente nos deu aprovação para iniciar a nova campanha

red tape – excessive paperwork or bureaucracy | burocracia

• Cutting through red tape could help qualified labor in the the immigration process | A redução da burocracia pode ajudar a mão de obra qualificada no processo de imigração
• There’s a lot of red tape to go through when it comes to getting a permit | Há muita burocracia a enfrentar quando se trata de obter uma licença
