oggi ho l’energia di un bradipo a riposo (today I’ve got the energy of a sleeping sloth). These were the opening words of a short post on my friend Annalisa’s Facebook yesterday evening. Intrigued by this metaphor, I carried on reading, and … the rest of the post was so beautiful and sad that I immediately asked Annalisa for permission to use it on our blog. Here it is in full:
… today I’ve got the energy of a sleeping sloth … which is saying something … I don’t like feeling like this! I go outside: vegetable patch and garden (garden, in reality some stony and uncultivated land which I’m trying to soften with wild herbs, medicinal plants, cutting of flowers stolen from here and there … or collected during walks …) look at me as if to say: “so, what are you going to do to us today? take away a few stones? plant the cuttings? move the plants that have grown too much and give them a bit of space? clean? well? are you just looking? wandering around aimlessly?” … There’s nothing to be done about it, a day without energy. I go inside, “open” Facebook and get even more depressed: tortured animals, politics, polluted environment robbed of its beauty … Oh God! I try to get on with some sewing and not to die … at least until this evening for the basket weaving course …
P.S. Annalisa is still alive, she went to the basket weaving course and she’s now feeling much better.

Firstly, thanks for your blog – it is always interesting and a fabulous resource to those of us who murder the Italian language on a regular basis!
I am posting here to tell you about a website I am developing that may be of interest to your readers. It is an English – Italian picture dictionary. When you visit the site, a page is served showing an Italian word, and English translation and a photo to illustrate the word.
