If you looked at the video, you can tell that the oil spill was gruesome. When the oil spill in 2007 occurred, South Korea faced a large dilemma. The spill occurred in Taean county (태안군), a place known for its beaches. When the spill occurred, seagulls, ducks, fish, snails, and basically any life form were affected. This was a disaster, but it doesn’t stay that way for long. Volunteers all over Korea brought their toothbrushes and gloves to help clean all the wildlife affected by the spill.

Even celebrities helped. Big Bang (빅뱅) made a song to encourage tourists to go back to the Taean beaches :

So yes, the spill caused a huge problem (a 330 million dollar problem), but with international support (China, Russia, Japan), domestic support (local policemen and celebrities), a situation like this can be improved.
