Korean Folk Villages Posted by on Sep 28, 2010 in Uncategorized

If you want a glimpse of Korean culture, try visiting a Korean folk village. Korean folk villages are outdoor museums where people can see and learn about Korean culture before modernization.

Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을) is a village in Seoul. The area is known for its traditional Korean houses. In the far distance, you can see several tall skyscrapers. The skyscrapers remind you how much Korean life has changed, because they serve as a contrast to the traditional housing.

Yangdong Folk Village (양동민속마을) is the best place to see the social stratification of the poor and wealthy in pre-industrial Korea. All the lower class homes and rooms are on lower ground, but the higher class homes are built on higher ground.

Korean Folk Village (한국 민속촌) is a great place to learn about Korean culture. It’s a fun, interactive place where visitors can view demonstrations about how to make straw shoes, Korean candy, paper, and try it out themselves.
