Korean Museums Posted by Ginny on Oct 22, 2010 in Culture
There are just too many museums to count in South Korea. I haven’t even come close to visiting half the number of museums in South Korea, and I’ve been visiting them since the year 2000. Here are the more memorable museums that I’ve visited so far.
The Bank of Korea Museum (한국은행화폐금융박물관) is located in the busy streets of Seoul (서울), the capital of South Korea. The Museum has a dome and the interior is laid with granite floors and French columns. Originally the Museum was a bank that was converted into a museum to catalogue the history of Korean currency.
The National Museum of Korea (국립중앙박물관) is a state of the art museum divided into three floors. It is one of the six largest museums in the world, with over 200,000 pieces in its collection. The items range from works of art to archeological pieces. The Museum includes children’s and outdoor exhibits. Not including special exhibits, general admission is free.
The Kimchi Field Museum (김치박물관) is a one of a kind museum. The Museum hosts lots of events, making this a fun, interactive place for kids. There are taste testing Kimchi events, lectures on how to make kimchi, and a photography gallery of all kinds of kimchi. Anything and everything related to kimchi is in this museum, including the history of kimchi making and the jars used to contain it.
