We just celebrated thanksgiving. I hope everyone had a great day! I really love traditional thanksgiving dinner:) All the amazing food, fire in the fireplace, families getting together! Obviously this holiday is not celebrated in Poland, but i found a Polish poem about thanksgiving. Here it is with translation:
Na Święto Dziękczynienia
Wczoraj Święto Dziękczynienia
było – zakończył je wieczór.
Jeszcze mamy wciąż życzenia
nowe, nieszczęściom na przekór.
Może lepiej podziękować
za ten stan co jest nam dany,
zamiast nowe formułować
żądania i trudne plany?
Bo los może się odwrócić,
zabrać tamto, to i owo,
czas nam dany nie powróci
i nie zrodzi nas na nowo.
On a Thanksgiving Day
Yesterday was Thanksgiving
Evening ended it.
Yet we still have new wishes
disasters in spite
Maybe we should thank
for this state of what is given to us,
instead of creating
demands and difficult plans?
Because fate can be reversed,
take those, this and that,
time given to us will not return
and not beget us again.
Do następnego razu… (Till next time…)

My name is Kasia Scontsas. I grew near Lublin, Poland and moved to Warsaw to study International Business. I have passion for languages: any languages! Currently I live in New Hampshire. I enjoy skiing, kayaking, biking and paddle boarding. My husband speaks a little Polish, but our daughters are fluent in it! I wanted to make sure that they can communicate with their Polish relatives in our native language. Teaching them Polish since they were born was the best thing I could have given them!
I have been writing about learning Polish language and culture for Transparent Language’s Polish Blog since 2010.
