Oi, pessoal! Hi, everyone!

Have you been keeping up with the World Cup lately? Are you into futebol (soccer)? Either way, this week we have been covering some soccer vocab to get you guys prepared for the games. Bola pra frente?

Soccer vocab in Portuguese

seleção | soccer team

técnico | coach

  • Atualmente, o técnico da seleção brasileira é o Tite | Currently, Brazil’s soccer team coach is Tite

gol | goal

  • Cristiano Ronaldo fez três gols na última partida | Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals on his last game

trave | posts

  • A bola bateu na trave e foi para fora | The ball hit the posts and bounced back

ganhar/vencer | win

  • Se o Brasil vencer essa copa, ele se tornará hexacampeão | If Brazil wins this Cup, it is going to be a six-time winner

perder | to suffer a defeat

  • Nos minutos finais do jogo, a Alemanha perdeu para o México | In the final moments of the game, Germany suffered a defeat against Mexico

arquibancada | stands

  • A arquibancada estava lotada de torcedores de todo o país | The stands were swarming with fans from all over the country

chutar | to kick, to boot

goleiro | goalkeeper

  • Salah errou o chute e o goleiro conseguiu defender | Salah miskicked and the goalkeeper was able to save

falta | foul

  • O árbitro marcou uma falta quando a bola encostou na mão do jogador | The referee called a foul when the ball touched the player’s hand

cartão amarelo | yellow card

  • Beckhan precisa tomar cuidado porque ele já levou um cartão amarelo | Beckhan needs to be careful because he was already handed a yellow card

cartão vermelho | red card

adversário | opponent

  • Depois de derrubar seu adversário, o jogador levou um cartão vermelho | After knocking down an opponent, the player was handed a red card

esporte | sport

  • Futebol é meu esporte favorito, mas também adoro volêi | Soccer is my favorite sport, but I also love volleyball

placar | scoreboard

  • Perdi o começo do jogo, qual é o placar? | I missed the beginning of the game, what is the score?

Falando do placar em português:

  • O jogo terminou em 2 a 1 | The final game score was 2 x 1
  • O resultado do jogo foi 4 a 2 | The game score was 4 x 2
  • A Rússia ganhou de 3 a 0 | Russia won two-nil
