Bom dia, prezados leitores! Our previous post went over the most typical problemas de viagem (travel issues) that you may run into – but hopefully won’t! Well, and the list goes on, so today’s post will cover a few more problems and how to talk about them in Portuguese. Of course, we expect most airport employees to know how to communicate in English, but still never hurts to know a little bit of the language to get around and to avoid unpleasant experiences during your trip. Prontos pra embarcar?
Remarcar o voo | Reschedule your flight
- Não conseguirei viajar neste final de semana, terei que remarcar o voo para outra data | I won’t be able to travel this weekend, I will have to reschedule my flight for another date
- Senhora, temos um voo para Recife saindo às 13:00, você deseja remarcar? | Ma’am, we have a flight to Recife leaving at 13:00, would you like to reschedule?
Conexão | Connection
- Olha que maravilha, vamos fazer conexão no Rio de Janeiro | Look how wonderful we are going to have a connection in Rio de Janeiro
- Minha conexão será em Amsterdam, então precisarei fazer o teste PCR | My connection will be in Amsterdam, so I will need to take the PCR test.
Escala | Layover
- Consegui comprar a passagem de volta, mas teremos que fazer uma escala em Lisboa | I managed to buy the return ticket, but we will need to have a layover in Lisbon
- Você tem alguma passagem com escala em São Paulo? | Do you have a ticket with a layover in São Paulo?
Filas grande | Long lines
- Meu voo sai em 30 minutos, preciso fazer o check-in, mas a fila está grande | My flight leaves in 30 minutes, I need to check in, but the line is too long
- Vamos chegar cedo, assim evitamos filas muito grandes na hora do embarque | Let’s arrive early, so we can avoid long lines when boarding
Alfândega | Customs
- Fui parado na alfândega e tive que pagar os impostos de alguns eletrônicos que comprei em Miami | I was stopped at customs and had to pay taxes for some electronics I bought in Miami.
- Passageiros que chegam de voos internacionais devem passar na alfândega assim que desembarcarem | Passengers arriving from international flights must go through customs as soon as they disembark.
Ponto de Táxi/transfer/aplicativo/ônibus | Taxi stand / transfer / application / bus stop
- Boa tarde, você sabe me informar onde fica o ponto de embarque para táxis e carros de aplicativos? | Good afternoon, can you tell me where the stop for taxis and cars is?
- Fiquei mais de vinte minutos para encontrar o ponto de ônibus do transfer, então acabei pegando um táxi | I spend more than twenty minutes to find the shuttle bus stop, so I ended up taking a taxi
Mala (bagagem) extraviada | Missing, lost luggage
- Minha mala foi extraviada, onde preencho os formulários para vocês me enviarem ela de volta? | My suitcase has been lost, where do I fill out the forms for you to send it back to me?
- É a segunda vez que minhas bagagens são extraviadas, não aguento mais isso! | It is the second time that my luggage goes missing, I can’t take it anymore!
Reembolso | Refund
- Minha viagem foi cancelada de última hora, vou pedir o reembolso da minha passagem | My trip was canceled at the last minute, I will ask for a ticket refund
- Só depois de quatro meses que recebi o reembolso das passagens aéreas | It took me four months to get the refund for the airline tickets
