Tips for Learning Portuguese Posted by on Jul 6, 2015 in Learning, Uncategorized, Vocabulary

Olá pessoal! This week, I wanted to give you all some tips on how to stay motivated while learning Portuguese. I started learning Portuguese years ago and I remember coming across some bumps in the road! Here are some tips:

1. Estabelecer objetivos (Set goals)

Do you want to be fluente (fluent) in a year? Do you want to be comfortable having a conversation in 6 months? Set realistic, flexible, and organized goals. They need to be able to adapt to your learning so you don’t get needlessly frustrated.

2. Dar um tempo e respirar fundo (Take a breath)

Take a breather if you do get frustrated. Start again tomorrow. That’s why you set flexible goals! Estresse (stress) is normal while studying but it’s important to let it go.

3. Escreva à mão em vez de digitar (Write instead of type)

A lot of the time you will remember (lembrar is to remember) easier and faster if you write à mão (by hand). I do this with vocabulário (vocabulary) and frases (phrases).

4. Desligue seu celular (Turn off your cell phone)

If you’re studying, texting and scrolling through Facebook while you’re reading won’t help you. Turn off your aparelhos electrónicos (electronic devices) and focus on Portuguese.

Learning a language is a process and takes time. It’s easy to lose motivation sometimes, but use these tips and anything else that works for you to stay motivated! Até breve!
