Last year in 2015 there were approximately 13000 new Swedish words that were registered by SAOL (Svenska Akademins Ordlista) and around 9000 words disappeared from the list. In this blog post I have collected a good selection of new and useful slang words and words that are very common and popular nowadays. They can be quite unique and sometimes you need some more information on Swedish culture to understand them.

Tjuvåkare: A person who travels without valid ticket

Fönstershoppar: Window shopping

Gubbsjuk: a lecherous person, nowadays it can also refer to men who make sexual/sexist comments

Lapplisa: A traffic warden or metermaid, (also men)

Citydeffad: Guys who focus on their upper body when they work out and have very thin legs.

08:a: A person from Stockholm since the area code is 08 when calling Stockholm.

Svensson: A typical Swede who might have a Volvo, a house with a garden, family, dog etc. (regular use)

Svennebanan: A corny a typical Swede. (negative)

Fickpingis: Masturbation, literally meaning playing ping-pong in your pocket.

Knullrufs: Messy hair after having sex

Svärmorsdröm: A boyfriend whom your mother would love

Viktigpetter: A person who is very opinionated about everything and need to comment on everything

Tråkmåns: A boring person

Svarttaxi: A taxi without a license
