Amr Diab; “With Him” Posted by on Sep 30, 2015 in Arabic Language, Culture, Pronunciation, Vocabulary

Ahlan, Arabic fans! Today I am presenting a beautiful song by Amr Diab عــَـــمــْـــرو دِيــَـــاب . The song is entitled “ويــَّــاه /Wayyah/” which translates literally as “With Him”. Surprisingly, slang Arabic can address females in the form of males, so Amr means “With My Love”.

Slang or dialectic Arabic is a phenomenon that deserves further research because it is different from Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) or even Classical Arabic (CA). It is a problem for both native and non-native Arabic speakers.

For those who are interested in the Egyptian dialect and who love music, Amr Diab’s songs can be of great benefit because Amr always sings in the Egyptian (slang) dialect; the most common and widely-understood among all other Arab dialects for its easiness and the domination of the Egyptian cinema and TV series at some time.

The song “Wayyah” comes in a twelve-songs album that bears the same name as the song. The “Wayyah’ album was released in June, 2009 and by July, 2009, it had sold 1.6 million copies. The song is about 04:45 minutes long and is in the Egyptian dialect like all of Amr Diab’s songs. It has very beautiful rhyming and is built of easy repeated words and lines. Amr’s music style is a distinguished mixture of the eastern and western music. I did the English translation for the song and I hope you will love it.

ويــَّـــاه

With Him

دا اللى كان نفسي فيه

This is what my soul wished for

لو تيجى صدفة تجمعني بيه

A chance to come gather us

فرصة عمري ، أضيعها ليه؟

The chance of my life! Why should I waste?

مش معقول

Impossible

عينى قدام عنيه

My eye to his eye

دا أكتر من اللى حلمت بيه

This is more than what I dreamed for

جاء اليوم اللى أنا مستنيه عشان أقول

The day I am waiting for has come, to say

وياه .. الحياة هتحلى و أنا معاه

With Him .. life is getting sweeter

هو دا اللى أنا بأتمناه

This is what I dreamed for

و اللى عينى شايفاه

This is what my eyes are seeing

إحساس

A sensation

إنه أحلى و أغلى الناس

That He is the sweetest and dearest of all people

خلى قلبى يقوللى خلاص

That made my heart tell me enough

اِهدا بقى لقيناه

Calm down, we found Him.

أيوة هأقول و أعيد

Yes, I will say and repeat

ما هو بقى جنبى و مش بعيد

As he is now near not far

فرحة قلبى كأنه عيد

My heart bliss as if it is a feast

مستنيه

Waiting

يلا أهو جه الأوان

So, the time has come

مش هأستنى ليوم كمان

I won’t wait for another day

لازم أقوله

I must tell Him

أنا من زمان عينى عليه

My eye is on Him for long

وياه .. الحياة هتحلى و أنا معاه

With Him .. life is getting sweeter

هو دا اللى أنا بأتمناه

This is what I dreamed for

و اللى عينى شايفاه

This is what my eyes are seeing

إحساس

A sensation

إنه أحلى و أغلى الناس

That He is the sweetest and dearest of all people

خلى قلبى يقوللى خلاص

That made my heart tell me enough

اِهدا بقى لقيناه

Calm down, we found Him.
