Welcome to the 2nd part of this blog post where we’re still discussing the topic of choices الاختيارات. Last week,we started studying a one-minute, video clip in Saudi Arabic باللهجة السعودية. The clip is taken from a live broadcast بث حي by Dr. Sumaya Al-Nasser الدكتورة سمية الناصر. Last week, an English transcript of the video was provided. In today’s post, you have the opportunity to work on some exercises to test your understanding of the video, through studying the English transcript.

 

 

So, last week, I provided the English transcription of the video (as Arabic subtitles are already added to the video).

 

 

Exercise 1: Matching

By revisiting the transcription provided in last week’s post, try to find the English alternative to the below list of Arabic words taken from the video.

I would like you to read these sentences (listed chronologically) I took from the English transcription. To test you do understand the content of the video in both Arabic and English, try to fill the gaps in each sentence in English with the missing word in both English & Arabic!

Exercise 2 (Answers):

• Where there are two roads in front of them, one would say: I go right (or) I go left –أروح يمين، أروح يسار

•  All things are sorted and I feel relieved  –  كل الأمور تتضبط وأرتاح

• And that’s it, no more mess, nothing  –  وخلاص ما عاد فيه لخبطة ولا شيء

• And it’s not a negative thing that there’s a mess  –  وهو مو شيء سلبي إنه يكون فيه لخبطة

• I mean he feels  that there’s a different energy  –  يعني يحس إنه في طاقة مختلفة

• Choosing a new energy has consequences  –  اختيار طاقة جديدة لها تبعات

• A decision that is different from a previous decision, has consequences – قرار مختلف عن قرار سابق.. له تبعات

• And despite that, a university student  gets confused  –  ومع ذلك طالب الجامعة يرتبك
