In this post, I present a listening comprehension exercise on Dubai economy. Listen to the report and answer the questions that follow. You can use the useful vocabulary at the end of the post to find the translation of some key words in the text.

Listen to the first sentence of the report and complete the missing words:

Answer the following questions in English:

1-How does the report describe the projects in Dubai?

2- How much sand was needed to build the Palm Islands in Dubai?

3- What was used to decorate the inside of Burj Al-Arab Hotel in Dubai?

4- Where do most foreign workers in Dubai come from?

5- How tall is Burj Khalifa tower and how many levels does it contain?

State whether these statements are true or false:

1- Dubai is one of the most exciting economic stories in the twentieth century.

2- The economy in Dubai focuses on tourism and real estate.

3- 85% of the residents of Dubai are nationals.

4- Some residents in Dubai have to fast longer than others in the month of Ramadan.

الجذابة = attractive

السياحة = tourism

العقارات = real estate

تطور = development

مشاريع = projects

الابتكار = innovation

حقائق = facts

تطلب = required

أفقى = horizontal

رمال = sand

تقديرات = estimates

مغتربين = expatriates

ارتفاع = height
