ستة وثلاثون بالمئة من نساء منطقة مكة المكرمة مترفات هذا ما أكدته دراسة حديثة بُعنوان ثقافة الإستهلاك الترفي لدى المرأة السعودية وسبلِ مواجهتها من وجهة نظر التربية الإسلامية .
الدراسة التي أُجريت على ألف وخمس مئة إمرأة من ساكنات مدينتي مكة المكرمة والطائف، أظهرت أن خمسمئة امرأة منهن يرتدين الملابس ذاتِ الماركات العالمية المعروفة في الغالب، وان أربعَمئة إمرأة يشترين عطوراً باهظة الثمن في الغالب، كاشفة أن أربعمئة إمرأة من عينة الدراسة يحرصن على إقتناء الساعات الفاخرة أحياناً، وأن ثلاثمئة إمرأة يحرصن بشدة على إقتناء أحدث أجهزة الهواتف المحمولة.
