In the previous post, I presneted a listening comprehension exercise. In this post, I present the answsers of the questions and the transcription of the news item.

Questions and Answers:

1-      What is the purpose of the work that Israeli engineers are undertaking?

The purpose of the excavation is to complete the discovery of the huge German weapons store that was discovered lately.

2-      How old are some of the weapons discovered?

Some of the weapons were produced more than 110 years ago.

3-      What is so strange about the discovery?

The strange thing is how these weapons survived and maintained many of their original properties in this area which is highly saline.

4-      Why was the store discovered?

The store was discovered as a result of the retreat of the water of the Dead Sea in the last few years.

5-      Who did the weapons belong to originally?

The weapons originally belong to German forces that fought alongside the Ottoman Forces against Britain in World War 1.

Transcription:

تعمل فرق من قوات الهندسة الاسرائيلية هذه الايام على استكمال الكشف عن مخزن سلاح الماني ضخم اكتشف مؤخرا شمال البحر الميت يعود تاريخ انتاج بعضها الى 110  اعوام ما اثار الاستغراب حول كيفية نجاتها واحتفاظها بالكثير من خصائصها في هذه المنطقة شديدة الملوحة، وتسبب انحسار مياه البحر الميت خلال السنوات الاخيرة بالكشف عن المخزن الذي وصف بالهائل والذي يحتوي على الالاف من قذائف المدفعية وكميات كبيرة من الذخائر، تعود هذه الاسلحة وفق الرواية الاسرائيلية لقوات المانية شاركت في الحرب العالمية الاولى الى جانب القوات العثمانية في مواجهة بريطانيا.
