The theme of nature in Fairouz’s songs (2) Posted by on Oct 11, 2017 in Arabic Language, art, Culture, Language, Literature, Vocabulary

In this post, we’re looking at two songs by Fairouz , following the same theme of the previous post. Both are in Lebanese Arabic.

sear in Lebanon

– The first song is:

Do you see the sea?

Do you see how big the sea is, that big I love you

Do you see how far the sky is, that far I love you

As big as the sea and as far as the sky

i love you, my love

my love, I love you

=========================

I waited for you, I called upon you,

I drew you on the promenades

you sorrow of the light, you tears of the flowers

you seasons of the birds

How vast the forest is, the vast is my heart

You who are drawn on my door, and drawn on my heart

=========================

I waited for you for a year, and how long was that year

Ask the walnut trees

And I see you in the sunny weather, coming from the sunny days

And lost in the almond leaves

– The second song is:

I belong to my beloved

I belong to my lover and my lover belongs to me

Oh white bird, don’t ask about it anymore

And nobody should blame us anymore, or get upset

I belong to my lover and my lover belongs to me

=============================

My lover beckoned to me, he told me: Winter is gone

And the dove is back and the apples have blossomed

The morning and the dew stand on my door

And in your eyes, my spring lit up and became sweeter

=============================

My lover beckoned to me, I came with no questions asked

He stole me away from sleep, from my peace of mind

And I am on his path, and his path is a path of beauty

Oh sun of love, weave our tale
