Rose of All Cities زهرة المدائن Posted by Fisal on Aug 31, 2011 in Arabic Language, Culture, Pronunciation, Vocabulary
Today, I am going to share a great song by the great singer; Fayrouz. The song is written by the great Lebanese poet Saeed Aql سعيد عقل and composed by the great Lebanese Rahbani brothers. The song is a dedication to the Arabism عُروبة of the great holy city of Jerusalem القُدس /Al-Quds/ which is honored in many of Fayrouz’s songs. The song is called “Rose of All Cities زهرة المدائن ” and is translated into English by me.

For you, City of prayers, I do Pray
For you, Beauty of all residence, rose of all cities
O, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, city of prayers, I do pray
To you, our eyes travel everyday
Tour the temples’ corridors
Hug the old churches
And wipe sadness off mosques
O, Night of Israa
O, Road of those who have passed to heaven
To you, our eyes travel everyday and I am praying
The baby in the cave with his mother; Mary, two faces crying
Crying for those who have been displaced
For homeless children
For those who defended and have been martyred at the entrances
And peace has been martyred in the home of peace
And justice fell at the entrance
When Jerusalem fell
Love stepped back and in the world’s heart, war has settled
The baby in the cave with his mother; Mary, two faces crying
And I am Praying
Bright anger is coming … I am all faith
Bright anger is coming … I will pass over sorrows
From every path … coming
With horses of fear … coming
And like the encompassing face of Allah, coming coming coming
The door of our city will never be locked as I am going to pray
I will knock on the doors … and I will open the doors
And you, Jordan river, will wash my face with your holy waters
And you, Jordan River, will erase the savage footprints
Bright anger is coming
With horses of fear … coming
And it will defeat the face of power
The house is ours .. and Jerusalem is ours
And with our hands, we will restore the beauty of Jerusalem
With our hands for Jerusalem, peace is coming
