Stronger winds of change Posted by on Jan 29, 2011 in Culture

Egypt is in a state of revolution, led by young people and old, by women and men. Everyone came out after Friday prayers to ask for a change in the political system in Egypt. Security forces failed to control the hundreds of thousands of demonstrators taking to the streets. Numbers of demonstrators reached 500,000 in Alexandria, and much more in Cairo. All Egyptian cities are in revolution. Young people lead the revolution and make history at an unprecedented moment in the history of Egypt.

After the failure of security forces, the army came to the streets to supervise a curfew imposed by President Mubarak, under emergency laws.   The army forces have been welcomed the people and the army officers did not interfere with people’s demonstrations.

Unfortunately, some people found this moment an opportunity to loot the shops and governmental offices, in the absence of security forces. Some people accusing the security forces of creating this chaos to reinforce the role of the government, but this cannot be confirmed. The young demonstrators bravely tried to save important sites, especially the Egyptian museum and formed a human wall around the museum to secure it until the army arrived and took control.

The Egyptian president came out on national TV after midnight to announce that he would ask the government to resign and ensure measures are taken to improve the economic situation in the country. Today, larger demonstrations have come out to the streets to ask the president to resign. Despite the curfew imposed on 4:00 pm, thousands of young people are spending the night at the streets of Egypt in all Egyptian cities, and they work hard with the army to ensure security of the country.

The official death toll refers to 35 deaths on the 28th of January, but media outlets refer to at least 120 deaths. However, the winds of change are blowing stronger and stronger every minute. People have finally found a voice and they are determined not to let go until the whole world hear their call!
