Um Ali – Dessert recipe Posted by on Aug 27, 2012 in Culture

I am writing this post now as I eat a very nice dessert from Egypt called Um Ali (ام علی). Um Ali is made up of pastry, nuts, milk and sugar; you can also add cream on top if you like!
I prepare it at home, and I follow very easy recipe! There are no exact ingredients or amounts because you can add any amounts you like of any ingredients you like! It always works!

Here is what I use to prepare Um Ali!

Puff pastry
Milk
Sugar
Raisins
coconut
almonds
walnuts
hazelnuts
pistachios
You can add or remove any nuts you like. The main ingredients are the puff pastry, milk and sugar!
You break the puff pastry into a tray or bowl suitable for oven use.
Add the nuts you like to the puffa pastry in any amount you like.
Heat the milk and add the sugar to it.
pour the milk and sugar on top of the puff pastry and nuts and mix them all together.
You put enough milk to cover the pastry and nuts completely.
(You can add cream on top, but I do not!)
Cook in the oven until the top is golden.
Serve hot and enjoy!
Please note that you do not use the frozen or dough puff pastry, but the baked type! If you only have the dough, put it in the oven until it turns golden, and then leave it to cool down before you start the preparation.
