2021 – Perhaps not the best year we had. But as every year, there are hoogte- en dieptepunten (ups and downs). And a jaaroverzicht (“year overview”, a end-of-year review) is a great way to reflect on the year to see this stuff. And the Dutch? Well, they enjoy doing that, too! Here are a few jaaroverzichten that give a pretty nice idea of what was in focus this year.

NOS Journaal 2021 Jaaroverzicht

NOS is the Dutch TV omroep (channel) for news. They host the most-watched Dutch evening news, and do a lot of other news programs, such as Nieuwsuur. They also do the year in review for news: The NOS Journaal Jaaroverzicht. Different than just having an extended news program, they decided to go around the country to visit significant places for the news and talk to relevant people. A worthwhile watch to see what happened in the Netherlands in 2021 and how they viewed what happened in the world! Oh, and with Dutch subtitles, which makes everything better (you do have to turn those on, though).

Het Wetenschappelijk Jaaroverzicht

Like 2020, this year was also an important year for de wetenschap (science). With COVID still in full force, we need health science more than ever. But more happened this year that deserves to be talked about in the realm of de wetenschap, of course! Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, famous from the now discontinued talkshow De Wereld Draait Door sits down with Robbert Dijkgraaf for a look at the world of science this year. From DNA to space, from fusion power to AI.

The best Tech of 2021? A Dutch Jaaroverzicht of technologie en gadgets!

Bright.tv is without a doubt the most popular and successful Dutch-speaking tech channel. From elektrische fietsen (electric bikes) to the new Apple MacBooks to de nieuwste gadgets (the newest gadgets), Bright covers it. And to end the year with a bang, they hosted the Bright Awards this year to give awards to the best tech of the year. However, they also have a jaaroverzicht of tech in different categories. Worth a look for sure!

VRT Het Jaaroverzicht: alles komt terug

The VRT Jaaroverzicht is created by the Belgium channel VRT. To watch it, you have to live in Belgium, however, but it can also be a nice way to look back and see all that happened in Belgium in 2021 in a short way.

If you want to find other jaaroverzichten, you can also try to look for jaarterugblik (“year lookback”) , as there are some jaaroverzichten that go by that term.
